Son of a Sailor Featured on the Cover of San Antonio Current! (!!!)

Posted by Abigail Edwards on

We’ve been keeping this one quiet, but we finally get to share it. Son of a Sailor is on the cover of SA Current’s 2025 Shop Local: Your San Antonio Holiday Shopping Guide. If you’ve walked into a coffee shop, restaurant, or bookstore around San Antonio this week, you may have already spotted it. Our storefront! Seeing ourselves on the front page of a citywide guide has been a surreal and incredibly special moment for our small team.

Alongside the print issue, SA Current also published an online feature titled “Son of a Sailor’s Jessica Knopp talks community building on San Antonio’s Eastside and the art of gift-giving.” The story explores how Jessica first began making jewelry back in 8th grade with a Caboodles organizer and a pile of beads. It traces our path from Austin to our home here in Dignowity Hill and dives into the intention behind everything we do: creating thoughtful, handcrafted pieces that help people give gifts with meaning. Jessica shares what inspires her, how our shop has grown, and why building community matters just as much as the work we create.

One of the most meaningful parts of this feature is the photograph chosen for the cover, captured by the incredible Carly Osborn of Anthology Photography. Carly lives right here in the neighborhood and understands the energy of the Eastside in a way that feels personal and familiar. She also photographed our Friendship Collection earlier this year, and her eye for warmth, color, and authenticity is part of what made that campaign so special. Having one of her images represent us on the cover of the Shop Local Guide felt exactly right, and we’re excited to share that you’ll be seeing more of her work with Son of a Sailor in the future.

If you haven’t read the whole issue yet, you can check it out online here, but we also recommend grabbing a physical copy while they’re still circulating. The Shop Local Guide is a once-a-year tradition, and this edition is one we’ll be keeping forever. Pick one up around the city and you’ll find us right on the front. Take it home. Share it with a friend. Show your mom. We’ll be doing the same.

All of this is landing at the perfect time as we head into our busiest and most joy-filled season of the year. We’re getting ready to welcome you with fresh finds, our brand-new Charm Bar where you can design your own custom creation, and a shop full of giftable pieces made in-house. We’ll also have extended holiday hours to make shopping easier and plenty of community moments at Nolan and Pine to keep the season bright.

Being featured on the cover means a lot to us, but what means even more is the community that made it possible. People show up for small businesses in San Antonio. They care about handmade goods, about the makers behind them, and about supporting the people who help give this city its character. We feel that support every single day.

Thank you for cheering us on, for choosing to shop small, and for being part of this moment with us. We’re so grateful, and we can’t wait to celebrate the season with you.
