Get to know Frida and Valentina!

Posted by Abigail Edwards on

The Frida and Valentina collection of earrings and necklaces pays homage to two iconic women who embodied resilience and creativity: Frida Kahlo and Valentina Tereshkova. Inspired by their strength, individuality, and unique sense of style, Son of A Sailor has crafted a collection that captures the essence of these remarkable women.

While we use the name Frida, for the incomparable Mexican artist, for our earrings and Valentina, honoring the pioneering engineer and cosmonaut, for our necklaces, each piece in this collection is built around the same three bold and meaningful shapes: The Arc, the Fork and The Drop.

The Arc

The Valentina Arc Necklace features a handcrafted curved bar pendant in bronze or sterling silver suspended from a delicate chain. The Frida Arc Earrings feature the simple and classic design on 14k gold filled or silver ear wires.  The graceful arc represents strength and resilience, the ability to bend without breaking.  This inspiring quality is embodied in namesake Valentina Tereshkova who called upon this strength to become the first woman in space in 1963.

The Fork

The two pronged Fork has long symbolized balance, harmony, and the ability to embrace duality in our lives. The Frida Fork Earrings are a particular nod to their namesake Frida Kahlo’s embrace of duality in using a naive folk art style to explore complex social and intellectual issues.

 The Drop

The drop is a striking and intentional slash of bronze or silver, made to grab and hold attention.  This bold shape is perfect for anyone who isn’t afraid to be seen speaking her mind.  As always, each drop is carefully crafted by hand from the heirloom quality bronze or sterling silver.

No matter which Frida or Valentina shape speaks to you, each piece is a celebration of the artistry, expression and commitment to excellence that you can expect from every Son of a Sailor accessory.
