The Zed Leather Valet Mat is a full-hide vegetable-tanned leather mat that catches your everyday carry on a dresser or desk, and doubles easily as a mouse pad.

Every house needs a landing spot, the place your keys, wallet, watch, and pocket change go the second you walk in the door, instead of scattering across three different surfaces. The Zed is built for exactly that job. Cut from a single, full hide of vegetable-tanned leather, it gives your dresser or desk somewhere for your stuff to live and somewhere for your surface to stay unscratched.

It's simple by design: no stitching, no extra hardware, just a substantial piece of leather that lies flat and stays put. Put it by the door for your EDC at the end of the day, or move it to your desk, where it works just as well catching a mouse as it does catching your keys.

Most of our jewelry findings are crafted from 14k gold-fill and sterling silver, while our jewelry collection features a mix of 14k gold-fill, sterling silver, and brass. To help preserve their finish, we recommend removing jewelry before swimming or showering and avoiding direct contact with lotions, perfumes, and harsh chemicals. Over time, sterling silver and brass may develop a natural patina, while gold-fill will maintain its beauty for years to come.

Our leather goods and wood pieces are made to age gracefully, developing richness, warmth, and character through everyday use. Likewise, our brass, copper, and stainless steel bottle openers are built for a lifetime of service. Keep them dry when possible and clean with a soft cloth as needed.

The Zed Valet Mat is a part of our Supply collection where natural leather joins our classic hand-painted techniques. Supply is derived from sleek masculine pieces, earthy leather with a pop, and a focus on heritage. Drawing from Billy's Navy days, each piece in Supply has been named from a letter of the phonetic alphabet. Focused around longevity, these pieces are meant to be passed from generation to generation.

Yes! Son of a Sailor accepts returns on most new, unused items within 14 days of delivery for store credit. Please note that shipping is not refundable.

In 2011, Billy + Jessica launched Son of a Sailor out of their East Austin home. Before they were even married, they knew they wanted to join forces creatively. Deep in the heart of texas

While Jess was born in Texas, Billy "got here as fast as he could" as they say. Each having moved around the country more than their fair share, Billy and Jess met in San Francisco, and before too long Billy brought Jess back home.

A graphic designer and screenprinter by trade, Billy’s work takes on organic forms while Jessica’s background in fine art photography gives her a strong eye for framing, precision and composition. Son of a Sailor was born out of their shared love of thoughtful design and the ways it can spark joy in the lives of others.
