One of a Kind Artwork, Made Locally

One of a Kind Artwork, Made Locally

Posted by Abigail Edwards on

It’s time to spotlight three fantastic Texas artists whose original art we are proud to carry at Son of A Sailor! There is something so special about owning something one-of-a-kind from an artist. While we have been carrying prints for awhile, we are excited to welcome these artists to the shop and provide an opportunity to own artwork that is completely one of a kind.

Danielle Ivester

Danielle Ivester is an Austin-based abstract artist with a BFA in studio arts from Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusets.  Her work is done primarily with textiles, panels of cotton canvas that are washed in thin layers of acrylic paints.  Her compositions explore and challenge ideas of color and form and draw inspiration from landscapes and scenes in the natural world.

Mazed

Alexa Wilson (she/they), originally from Orlando Florida, found her way to San Antonio in early 2020 during the midst of the pandemic and quickly joined the local art scene with their Mazed line drawings. These fully solvable mazes and other pieces are inspired by a love of geometry, architectural details, micro-organisms, rock formations and studies of the human body.

Ann Flemings

Ann Flemings has been creating beautiful abstract works with acrylic in Austin, Texas since 2007. Her studio can be found right next door to Son of A Sailor’s Austin location. She describes her process as:

Drawing from memories, moods and the paint combinations on my palette, I start with a loose composition, which I cover, layer, remove, repaint and cover again, transforming the piece through many stages. Working through this searching process, I create multi-layered vistas that are reminiscent of things familiar.”
