SOS x Sertodo: A Collaboration with Backyard Beginnings

SOS x Sertodo: A Collaboration with Backyard Beginnings

Posted by Abigail Edwards on

Sometimes the best things start with a racket!  When Billy and Jessica investigated a loud banging noise from the yard next door, they had no idea what it would lead to. It turned out that the racket came from their neighbor, Jonathan Beall, working away on his incredible Sertodo copper collection and the conversation over the fence turned into a years long friendship and collaboration.

Jonathan Beall has been creating hammered copper goods in Austin and in cooperation with artisans in Santa Clara del Cobre, Mexico since 1997.  His first pieces were sold out of the back of his truck and are still in use today. Each piece is meticulously crafted, drawing inspiration from traditional copper-smithing techniques passed down through generations. From stunning copper mugs and barware to elegant serving trays and kitchenware, Sertodo Copper's creations embody a timeless elegance that complements any setting.

Beyond their exquisite designs, Sertodo Copper takes pride in its commitment to sustainability. Because they use only 100% recycled copper, their creations leave a minimal ecological footprint, aligning perfectly with today's eco-conscious values. By incorporating age-old methods and sustainable practices, Sertodo Copper embraces a harmonious balance between tradition and modernity – a commitment that Son of A Sailor fully shares.

After the fateful backyard meeting, Billy, Jessica and Jonathan knew they had to join forces. The SOS x Sertodo barware collection combines hammered recycled copper mugs and shot cups with vegetable-tanned leather sleeves and sustainably-sourced walnut flight boards, all made with care and commitment to quality right here in Texas.

Serving guests or gifting loved ones with beautiful, high quality SOS x Sertodo pieces is a perfect way to display a commitment to art, the environment and the joy of meeting new friends in unexpected places.
